SO French
SO French

Originally from France , where she studied Business and Fashion, Sophie has already spent four years in Hong Kong where she does marketing for a luxury company. For her, life is about passion, curiosity and creativity .

This leads her to travel in Asia to discover new places and new cultures. Fond of art, she is always chasing after the new art exhibition in town, the latest concerts and plays. To her, Hong Kong is one of the most dynamic and international cities where you need to be.

I have some secret shops in Wanchai where I can find samples from brands I liked in the UK and I have to admit I am lucky enough to be able to attend some private sales in HK... Besides I used to be a Shenzhen Addict, tailoring especially silk dresses.

French Oysters delivered to your door! SO Fresh, SO French!

Christmas dinner in France is a very special event when we gather with friends and family around exquisite dishes and drinks.

Christmas dinner has some constant traditional dishes: foie gras on sliced brioche and smoked salmon on blinis for the “aperitif” or appetizer.

Then there’s usually a starter that could be fresh oyster or seafood followed by the main course. Depending on who you dine with, you will have different variations: venison, pheasant, pigeon, duck, goose, capon, leg of lamb or roast fillet of beef. Cheese platter is usually served as well before the traditional dessert “ bûche de Noël” or Yule log Cake.

Most of those dishes can be bought easily at City super, Great or Oliver in Hong Kong.

Fresh oysters from Brittany, France delivered to your home in Hong Kong!

However some are not easy to find like the Fresh Oysters directly imported from France. Recently I have discovered a new company, M&C Asia that is importing the popular PRAT-AR-COUM oysters from Brittany, well appreciated for its unique taste, that have been chosen by many famous chefs (Michelin star-rated) in Fracnce and abroad such as Guy Savoy,  Alain Ducasse, Pierre Gagnaire, and more.

PRAT-AR-COUM oysters have been awarded multiple times at the official “Agricultural General Concours of Paris”, the most prestigious recognition in France.

A fresh mix of sweetness and iodized sharpness together with its well-known taste of hazelnut make it one of the finest oysters.

Here in Hong Kong, they are supplying fresh oysters to Agnes B Café, Press Room, and Café Deco.  The good news is, you can now order from home and have them  delivered directly to your door ,  nicely fresh at a very reasonable price (click here for price list).  After you try it, you will agree with me that it’s a different experience from picking up your oysters  at City Super.

So fresh that it came with the seaweed

Hence this year, you do not need to book a table at Pierre Gagnaire in Hong Kong. Just order Fresh Oysters from M&C Asia and you will impress your friends with the freshness and have the feeling to be in France

.

November and December are very good months to eat oysters.   Each category of oysters has a special taste. If you do not know which one you prefer I would advise you to order a variety to  explore your favorite. You can learn more here.

Tips for enjoying oysters the French Way:

1)    Order one week in advance and ask the delivery close to the day you intend to eat them, as you have to open them just before your dinner in order to be sure they will be fresh and tasty.

2)    Oysters are traditionally served with rye bread (brown bread) and butter, and we use lemon juice or shallot vinegar. Shallot vinegar is simply red wine vinegar mixed with chopped shallots

3)     As for wine, Sancerre and Muscadet are the usual white wine choices as they complement well the flavour of the oysters. Of course, champagne or sparkling wine are always lovely as a toast to special festive season like Christmas.
